A few days ago we showed you some useful Facebook shortcuts, now we continue our series with a selection of useful Twitter shortcuts.

Twitter has more than 500 million users – but how many of these know of its best hidden keyboard functions? For all those of you who have no idea of them, below’s a list of the top fifteen tips.

Timeline Shortcuts

1. Homepage – ‘g h’.

If you want to return straight to the web page, you don’t need to scroll the cursor right up to the home symbol on the left. You can just press ‘g h’ on your key-board and it will get you straight to your home Twitter feed.

2. Your profile – ‘g p’.

When you’re browsing around on Twitter and end up 7 degrees of split far from your profile, press ‘g p’ and it will certainly take you straight back to your profile.

The message symbol can be hard to find on Twitter, so if you need to access your inbox, press ‘g m’ on your key-board and it will get you directly there.

4. Connect – ‘g c’.

When you want to go to your list of interactions, just press ‘g c’ on the key-board.

5. Mentions – ‘g r’.

To get to mentions you might then simply click on the tab on the left – but certainly the faster alternative would be to just type ‘g r’ which will bring up any Tweets which mention you.

6. Users’ profiles – ‘g u’.

To get to another person’s profile you won’t have to browse the search box. Instead you can type ‘g u’ and a box will appear saying: “Go to a person’s profile.” Just write in their name to jump to their profile.

Actions Shortcuts

7. New Tweet – ‘n’.

Wherever you get on the Twitter site, pressing ‘n’ on your keyboard will immediately bring up a ‘What’s happening?’ case for you to type in your Tweet into.

If you wish to send a DM (direct message), press ‘m’ and a new direct message case will appear on your screen. You can then enter the recipient’s Twitter address and send your message.

9. Favourite – ‘f’.

If you discover a Tweet you want to favorite, simply pressing ‘f’ will favorite it for you. However – word of warning – this only functions if you have opened a new page for the Tweet. It won’t operate only on your homepage.

10. Retweet – ‘t’.

Just as with favouriting a Tweet, you should have the Tweet fully open to accomplish this. Once you have it up, simply press ‘t’ and it will ask you when you want to retweet this to your followers.

Navigation Shortcuts

11. Reply – ‘r’.

For those of you who were really wondering why the code for retweeting is a ‘t’, currently you’ll know exactly why. The ‘r’ shortcut is reserved for replying to a Tweet. Once again, make sure you feature the Tweet open separately just before you accomplish this. If you press it while on the homepage, absolutely nothing will happen.

12. Next Tweet – ‘j’.

To proceed to the next Tweet in a list, simply pressing ‘j’ will take you into the upcoming one c0d8a108067632463effc944acaa3f04and create a blue box around the Tweet.

13. Previous Tweet – ‘k’.

To go back to a previous Tweet, press ‘k’.

14. Load more – ‘.’.

If you experience an older browser, or your Tweets are getting a time to load, pressing ‘.’ will certainly bring up the next series of Tweets for you, and get you directly to the main of your page.

15. Keyboard shortcuts – ‘?’.

Whenever you’re unsure of all these kinds of shortcuts, just typing in a question mark will lift Twitter’s secret menu of each of the keyboard shortcuts available.
